BUNS BURGERS AND BEER
LONG BRANCH SALOON'S WINNING COMBINATION
Hidden in a dimly lit bar lies Anchorage’s most mouth-watering burger. Deceiving to a first-timer, this saloon, complete with pool tables and beer posters lining the walls, holds what users voted as one of the best burger joints in town.
This isn’t the first time Long Branch has been singled out for its burgers. The saloon and grill won national acclaim when the Food Network called it the must-try burger in Alaska in their “50 Burgers from 50 states” selection. In 2012, The Anchorage Daily News declared it first place in their March Madness burger competition.
What makes Long Branch stand out, aside from the homemade buns, are the simple and quality ingredients used in each and every burger. You won’t find fancy sauces or exotic names here. Other than the teriyaki and guacamole burgers, the kitchen sticks to the basics, allowing them to concentrate on the art of the perfect burger.
The hamburger buns are homemade, baked daily on site. Atop the light fluffy bread sits a third-of-a-pound of beef patty, ground locally at Teddy’s Tasty Meats. The fresh crunch of lettuce, pickles, and onions alongside the juicy tomatoes go perfectly with the succulent patties.
With everything from bacon cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, and jalapeno burgers there are endless options. There is even a Kobe burger special, said Long Branch Saloon Manager Mike Conaway, “Your mouth will water so much you’ll have to take time to breathe.”
And if you’re not interested in the large selection of burgers, you’ll still find something to enjoy. Hungry patrons love the big crisp salads or the half pound grilled chicken sandwich. “We don’t do little sandwiches,” said Conaway.
If you’re not too sure about eating in a bar, the friendly staff and delicious food will win you over. When the snow melts the outdoor patio will open and what could be better than sipping a cold beer and chowing down on a monster sized burger in the warm Anchorage sun?
