All persons who live and work in Anchorage deserve the same legal protections without regard to age, race, sex, religion, physical or mental disabilities, sexual orientation or being transgender.
No one should have to live in fear that they can be legally fired from their job or evicted from an apartment for reasons that have nothing to do with their work performance or their quality as tenants. No one should be refused service in a public business because they are gay or transgender. All Anchorage residents should be treated fairly and equally by our laws including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and should have the chance to earn a living and to provide for their families.
No one should be discriminated against solely because they are gay or transgender. But, under current federal, state and local law it is perfectly legal to fire or refuse to hire someone because she is a lesbian, for reasons having nothing to do with her work performance or job qualifications.
